The Walking Dead #51 – My Initial Reaction

There are some comic book series that, when I get a hold of the latest issue, I do a quick scan to see what happens as fast as possible, then I go back and read it through a little more slowly. Then there are other series that when I open up the first page, I’m carried along at a violently quick pace as if I was on a raft in the rapids. The Walking Dead #51 falls somewhere in between those two extremes, although I did go back to one particular page about three times to make sure I didn’t miss something (when you read it you might know which page I’m talking about).

Without giving anything away, I think this issue is like a slap in the face, or a rude wake up call. Just when you think you’re out of one jam, something comes along from left field and brings with it a whole new way to say, “Oh Crap!”

Rick has survived a terrible fever only to suffer in a whole new way. I don’t think I’d turn my back on him at this point.

I really like this series. I’ve been into the whole ‘zombie invasion’ thing since about 1979 when I saw ‘Dawn Of The Dead’ at the movies. I honestly didn’t know how Robert Kirkman could keep a series going like this with enough new plots and story to justify a monthly comic, but so far I’m impressed with everything he’s done and can’t wait for each issue to come out.
