Fox Schedules Full Run Of “Dollhouse” – First Season

March 31, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Good news, “Dollhouse” fans!
No, the show hasn’t been renewed for next season. We won’t know that for several more weeks yet. And yes, the ratings have been picking up a bit so that is a good sign.
The good news is that Fox has announced the air schedule for the second half of the first season.
And according to a report at Dollverse, the show will get its full run of 13 episodes. New episodes will air on April 3, 10, 24 and May 1, 8 and 15. There will be a scheduled pre-emption for the return of “Prison Break” on April 17th, but at least we’ll get to see the entire season. And it looks like they should air in the order creator Joss Whedon intended.

So, keep watching and maybe we’ll get that second season….

Skype For iPhone Now Available In U.S.

March 31, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Engadget has a report on how Skype for the iPhone is doing so far…

It’s finally here, and even a few minutes early. Skype for iPhone is now available in the US iTunes store, free of charge. We’ve heard great thing from the folks in Japan who’ve been fiddling with it for the last twelve hours, and so far it’s sounding pretty good for us, too, with only minor hiccups. Not sure if it’s a glitch, but despite what we heard earlier, we seem to be able to dial out while on 3G and not over WiFi (at least running OS 3.0 beta). Hit up the read link for quickest route to the app store page, and let us know what you think. Betcha wish you could ditch that AT&T voice plan now, huh?

Update: We’re getting reports the app is crashing for jailbroken iPhones — and possibly non-jailbroken ones as well. We just got our first denial when dialing out over 3G via a popup notification, but it only happened once and we were back to old habits one call later. We did experience a brief period where no sound was coming through, but that might have something to do with using OS 3.0 and was remedied by restarting the phone.

Update 2: So far, it looks like dialing over 3G’s only working for those with OS 3.0 beta, but unfortunately all of us in that situation are now suffering from frequent crashes and loss of audio. Things seem to be going smoothly for those running the latest non-beta firmware, but the calls only work over WiFi. That said, when using the app as intended (non-beta firmware over WiFi), audio quality was surprisingly good, far better than any third party apps we’ve used.

AT: Good question. As an actor it’s actually a lot like doing theatre. Very minimalist theatre. The words, the characters, the relationships, the moment all become heightened. There are no distractions. We have props and key set pieces, so that helps. But it is up to the DP, Camera, the Director and the actors to make the physicality work. It’s definitely a team effort. It doesn’t really take a lot longer to film once everyone has figured out where everything is!

Caitlyanna writes: “1. What are some of your favorite memories working on Stargate? Favorite episodes?”

AT: That is such a hard question to answer because working on the show in general was so much fun. It was the afternoon giggles. The laughing until tears streamed down our faces. The general comfortable feeling of family and goofiness that the show fostered. It was so easy to be there. The cast, the crew, the producers, the writers, all were in on this lovely atmosphere. We prided ourselves on being the fun show that guest starts wanted to be on. I guess my favourite episode is Heroes, because it was everything that was great about our show. It showcased everyone well. And it was so intense.

“2. How hard is it to work on an almost all green screen set on Sanctuary? (Love the show by the way.)”

AT: Thank You!!!!! It is actually quite fun and quite liberating to work on a green screen set. Once you get used to the intensity of the green, you live in the moment. Your job is to sell the reality of the situation and the space. And it becomes more about the words and the scene. I really appreciate it a lot more now.

“3. What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not acting?”

AT: Hanging out with Olivia. We paint and play music. She has an incredible imagination and I love going on adventures with her. We walk a lot in the woods looking for fairy castles. It’s precious time and it goes by so quickly. She’s reintroduced me to “wonder”.

Create a Cat Climbing Tree from Ikea Shelves

March 30, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

The climbing trees at pet stores are ridiculously expensive and take up tons of floor space. Help your kitty jump to a royal view, Super-Mario-style, without cluttering your floor or wasting money.

ModernCat showcased a pretty nifty climbing wall designed by one of the blog’s readers. The kitty roost is made from a combination of Ikea products: shelving brackets, small shelves, and wool carpet swaths. With some smart shopping, though, you could buy similar materials just about anywhere. By using the wall itself as the primary support for the cat’s climbing space, you avoid the big footprint of a commercial climbing tree.

Inexpensive construction aside, the best part about using the wall for support is you can create a roost as high as your ceilings allow. I know a certain cat at my house that would be thrilled to have a 15 foot tall perch in my office, well above children’s poking fingers. For more pictures and links to the various parts, take a peek at the link below. If you have your own creative pet related project, we’d love to hear about it!

Bed Bunker Is Ideal For The Zombie Apocalypse

March 30, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

If you’re worried about conspiracy theories on a regular basis, you’ve probably started to think of ways to defend your home. Well for the extremist, this is one way to make sure your guns and ammunition stay nice and safe. It’s enough space to make yourself your own miniature army. You can protect yourself from zombies and aliens alike with this kind of fire power. Of course you’ll have to be a little more careful with those aliens, they likely have some nasty fire power on them.

You could also store things besides guns within the safe. It’s protected from fire, so it would also be a great spot to store important documents you want to make it through a fire. The safe also functions as a bed, it will work as a twin, queen or king size. You can get a custom size as well if none of those work for you. Being a safe it does lock to protect your ammunition and valuables from thieves as well as your kids. Likely few people would even guess that the clunky bed frame under your mattress is actually a safe. You can pick it up for anywhere from $2700 on up to $5200.

James Marsters Talks Dragonball Evolution

March 30, 2009 by tcgames · 1 Comment

James Marsters: It was not easy being green in Dragonball Evolution

James Marsters, who stars as the evil Lord Piccolo in the upcoming fantasy film Dragonball Evolution, told SCI FI Wire that the movie was one of the toughest jobs of his career because of the extensive makeup, action and costumes. But he said the trouble was well worth it as he’d been a fan of the Japanese manga/anime franchise and was eager to see it realized on the big screen.

In the film, Piccolo is the villain who’s determined to gather seven mystical Dragon Balls and use them to rule the world. Out to stop him are the hero, Goku (Justin Chatwin), and his allies (Chow Yun-Fat, Jamie Chung, Emmy Rossum and Joon Park). Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) spoke about Dragonball Evolution in a recent exclusive telpehone interview. Following are edited excerpts from that conversation. Dragonball Evolution opens on April 8.

LG GD900: First Smartphone With A Transparent Keypad

March 30, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

I think that 2009 has already started to be the year of the smartphone. There are going to be so many fast and furious changes in the coming months that by the end of the year the market will be completely changed…

Do you want a Smartphone with a bit more style? The LG GD900 is a “7.2Mbps HSDPA slider with world’s first transparent glass (not plastic as originally assumed) keypad will be functional.” Continue reading for one more picture.

We know that the GD900 features vibrational haptic feedback and that the transparent keypad seems to double as a touch-sensitive mouse pad (like that on your laptop) when surfing the internet or navigating the UI.

The Pirate Bay Comes To Facebook

March 30, 2009 by tcgames · 1 Comment

NewYorkCountryLawyer writes “According to a report I just read in Mashable, Pirate Bay is coming to Facebook. Writer Ben Parr says that The Pirate Bay site now includes links under torrents to ‘Share on Facebook.’ Once posted to a profile, the Facebook member’s friends can click the link on Facebook to begin the download right away, provided he or she already has a torrenting client installed.

I just hope people do not use this feature to download copyrighted materials which are not authorized to be downloaded, or at least not materials copyrighted to litigation-happy RIAA Big 4 record labels. No doubt, if their song files were downloaded through this method, the record companies would sit back for awhile, derive profit from the promotional excitement generated for their dying industry, and then — armed with Facebook’s data — sue the pants off all the hapless Facebook users who fell for it.”

Windows 7 Touchscreen Details Emerging

March 28, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

nandemoari writes "Microsoft has revealed more about Windows 7 and its support for touch screen technology. The system sounds impressive, however, reports suggest it appears to have a high error rate. In an early version of the system, Microsoft found some problems. For example, both the zoom and rotate functions worked less than 75% of the time, often because the computer confused the two.

To rectify this, engineers redesigned the system so that it only looks out for gestures specifically relevant to the program being used. This made a significant improvement: the zoom gesture was now recognized 90% of the time. The problem is that even a 90% success rate may be too low. If you can imagine how frustrating it would be if one in ten keystrokes or mouse movements didn’t do what you intended, you can see why touch screen technology will need to be even more reliable if it’s to truly improve the user experience. PC Authority has a related story about statements from HP, who don’t expect such technology to replace keyboards and mice any time soon."

Editor’s note: I keep thinking this is a hoax, but whether or not it turns out to be real, it is one cool looking machine.

As you might have guessed, the experience on board the Hotelicopter is far from your standard Motel 6. This gigantic flying Titanic machine features everything you would expect from a 5-star hotel—from private entertainment systems and room service to extras like spa treatments, yoga classes, gaming and a tea garden.

If you were wondering just how big and powerful this flying hotel really is, check out the specs:

* Dimensions Length: 42 m (137 ft)
* Height: 14m (45 ft)
* Maximum Takeoff Weight: 105850 kg (232,870 lb)
* Maximum speed: 255 km/h (137 kt) (158 miles/h)
