Thanos To Appear In the Avengers Movie?

January 3, 2012 by admin · Leave a Comment

Tom Hiddleston in The AvengersThe Avengers heads into theaters May 4 and thus far, has been shrouded in secrecy. Movie Fanatic has uncovered a slew of plot points and if you don’t want The Avengers story spoiled, stop reading now and head over to our Top 10 Most Anticipated Films of 2012 (of which Avengers is one).

What do we know? Well, for one… Hugo Weaving is back as Red Skull. We first saw him in Captain America: The First Avenger and it appears he will cross paths with The Avengers’ main bad guy, Loki. Loki, as you recall, is the brother of Thor from the Thor movie and his presence on Earth is what compels Samuel L. Jackson’s character, Nick Fury, to call his Avengers into duty.

Loki is also spending time with Thanos. Rumors have abounded that Thanos would be in The Avengers and now we can confirm that is true. The devious Loki tricks Thanos… how? First, since Fox owns the rights to the alien race The Skrull, Marvel had to change the alien shape shifters to The Redacted. So, back to Thanos and Loki: Loki pulls the wool over Thanos’ eyes when he convinces him that the Infinity Gauntlet is more powerful than the Infinity Gems. When Loki gives Thanos the Infinity Gauntlet, he in turn gives Loki The Redacted for his mission to destroy Earth.

By now, we’re sure you’re curious about Red Skull and his dealings with Loki. Loki and Red Skull split up the Infinity Gems with Red Skull garnering the Soul, Time and Space, and Loki taking the Mind, Reality and Power gems. Something tells us, given Loki’s dealings with Thanos, that Red Skull will regret that deal.

Now, for the biggest reveal! Loki will eventually join The Avengers! How? Stay tuned for more and while you’re at it… check out The Avengers trailer!

Starship Troopers Remake?

Starship Troopers is getting a remake with some heavy-duty writers

Robert Heinlein’s somewhat controversial 1959 book was made into Paul Verhoeven’s rather divisive 1997 movie: Some saw it as an insightful satire on the media-readiness of modern war, while others saw it as a candy-colored betrayal.

But now Sony has retained the writers of Thor and X-Men: First Class to fashion a new take on a classic tale.

More News On The Evil Dead Remake

November 30, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

Here’s a little bit of movement on that remake of The Evil Dead that Panic Attack director Fede Alvarez will oversee. The movie is based on Sam Raimi‘s fan-favorite original 1981 film, with a script Alvarez co-wrote with Rodo Sayagues before Diablo Cody did a rewrite.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and FilmDistrict have partnered with Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures to make a big deal to distribute the movie, with the bottom line being that Sony Pictures will distribute The Evil Dead in many countries, including the US.

Variety has the new, saying that the film is set to shoot in 2012. Longtime Raimi producing partner Robert Tapert said,

For 30 years, Sam, Bruce and I have been looking for the right home where we could return the deadites to the big screen. Amy Pascal and Jeff Blake at Sony and Peter Schlessel at FilmDistrict have always been incredible partners who share our passion for great storytelling as well as our obsession for scaring the pants off the audience. Together, we are looking forward to terrorizing a whole new generation.

New Image From ‘John Carter’ Shows Giant White Ape

The summer preview issue of Entertainment Weekly has more gifts. Last night it was the first new pics from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus that we’ve seen in months. Now it is a new image from Andrew Stanton‘s John Carter, which shows Taylor Kitsch as the title character facing off against off one of the film’s six-limbed, giant-toothed beasts. Check it out in full below.

So, yeah, it’s a little bit like something out of the Star Wars prequels — I could see a few lightsaber-wielding Jedi facing down that thing. We haven’t seen much at all from this movie, and while the trailer left some people pretty cold, I think this is just the beginning of the wave of alien creatures that are going to be revealed from the film. Doc Savage Movie Might Still Happen Says Shane Black

Iron Man 3 director says that Doc Savage movie ain't dead yet

That epic new Doc Savage movie we’ve been waiting on for eons still has some life left in it. Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout) is attached to direct the strapping hero and believes the adaptation will get his full attention once his other little comic movie, Iron Man 3, is done.

Black came aboard the project back in 2009 to co-write the screenplay, then was assigned to direct for Columbia in February of last year. It is rumored to be a period piece set in the ’30s, the era in which pulp magazines were enjoying vast popularity. Seems like a juicy gig for the pulp-loving Black’s exotic tastes.

In a chat with Comic Book Resources at last week’s Long Beach Comic Con, Black outlined the feasibility of the Man of Bronze bursting onto the big screen soon:

Photo–Anne Hathaway As Catwoman

August 5, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

Warner Bros has released the first official photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

The photo, which appeared on the official website, TheDarkKnightRises.com, has a file name of “selina_kyle.jpg”. Most comic fans know that Kyle is the secret identity of the Batman villainess… but I find it interesting that the file uses that name and not “Catwoman”.

Is it possible that this might not be Hathaway’s complete Catwoman outfit? A source earlier revealed that the Catwoman costume is more “tactical, like the comic book,” “less sexy than Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman costumes”, and would feature goggles.

This looks exactly like what was described (although the goggles look more like high tech glasses). Read more

The Flash & Justice League Movies Still Possible

August 3, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

Jeff Robinov, the president of Warner Bros. film group, recently started quite a stir saying that he’d like to see a Green Lantern sequel be “a little edgier and darker.” At the same time he also foreshadowed the future of DC superhero movies beyond The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel in 2012 and 2013 by saying they have a “solid script” for The Flash and that they’d still like to bring all the heroes together for a Justice League movie. Green Lantern 2 To Be A Darker, Edgier Film

August 2, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

Green Lantern had a reasonable (not great) opening weekend but was otherwise a creative and financial dud. It is an example of that strange studio phenomenon: a film that manages to feel both over-written, with villains and set pieces seemingly cobbled together from different script drafts, and under-scripted, thanks to the total lack of sense behind most of the character actions. And audiences didn’t respond, once the marketing gave way to word of mouth? Shocker.

Because that opening weekend was north of $50m, Warner Bros. is still planning a sequel. What will the studio’s approach be this time? A solid script that establishes a story with logical and emotional drive and then embellishes it with action? Pfft. Why bother, when it can just be darker and edgier? (Or Dark Knight-ier, as the case may be.)

Warner Bros. film group president Jeff Robinov told the LA Times,

We had a decent opening so we learned there is an audience. To go forward we need to make it a little edgier and darker with more emphasis on action… And we have to find a way to balance the time the movie spends in space versus on Earth.

There is already a script outline put together by Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, all of whom worked on the first film. But the LAT reports anonymous sources saying that the outline could be changed or scrapped altogether.

And as for Martin Campbell, who directed the first? He has an option to direct the sequel, but WB reportedly doesn’t want him to be in the big chair. So there might be some backstage dealmaking to be done, but expect to see another name on the film in 2013 or so. (As we expected, really.)

World War Z Begins Filming–Finally!

August 2, 2011 by admin · Leave a Comment

For those feverishly following the World War Z production… Shooting for the film kicks off in Falmouth, Cornwall today, supported by local film crew from the South West. The production – starring Brad Pitt and James Badge Dale – will be partially shot on board a ship.

Open casting for the zombie thriller took place in Truro in July, where five hundred extras were brought on board for the Falmouth-based scenes.

World War Z is based on Max Brooks’s best-selling book, "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War."

Set in the near future, it revolves around UN employee Gerry Lane (Pitt) who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the zombie pandemic that is toppling its armies and governments, and threatening to decimate humanity itself. Mireille Enos also stars as Gerry’s wife, Karin.
