The Academy got something right tonight. Heath Ledger has won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as The Joker in the Christopher Nolan directed film, “The Dark Knight”.
The late actor’s father Kim Ledger, mother Sally Bell and sister Kate Ledger accepted the award on Ledger’s behalf. The award will be passed on to the late actor’s daughter Matilda.
“This award tonight would have humbly validated Heath’s quiet determination to be truly accepted by you all here — his peers within an industry he so loved,” Kim Ledger told the audience.
Ledger, who died 13 months ago from an accidental prescription drug overdose at age 28 becomes only the second actor to win an Oscar posthumously. Peter Finch was the first when he was named winner of the best actor award for “Network” in 1977.

The Dark Knight is Fastest Fandango Seller of Summer
“The Dark Knight” tickets have been a hot commodity since they first went on sale on Friday, June 20 at Fandango.com. As of this morning, the film is outpacing “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, “Iron Man” and “Sex and the City” as Fandango’s fastest ticket-seller of this summer.
“We are currently seeing a surge in advance ticket sales for ‘The Dark Knight’,” says Ted Hong, vice president of marketing for Fandango. “It makes sense that there’s a rush for tickets, as it’s the perfect movie to see on the big screen, as supported by our strong ticket sales for both traditional screens and the larger format in IMAX ®. We believe the film is appealing to both comic book and action fans, as well as casual moviegoers.”
The late Heath Ledger’s potentially Oscar®-worthy performance as The Joker in “The Dark Knight” was cited as top reason for seeing the movie, according to 53% of respondents to Fandango’s online survey of moviegoers in June.

An advance look at a marketing teaser poster for McG’s Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins was revealed at the New York Licensing Show. The tagline on the bottom reads “Becoming Self-Aware Memorial Day 2009”
MTV says that the first official teaser poster will hit theaters on July 18th, to coincide with Warner Bros’ release of The Dark Knight. Attached to the Batman sequel will be the film’s first teaser trailer. The film is only a month into production, so it’s likely that the teaser will contain little or no footage from the actual film. And hey, you were going to The Dark Knight anyways, now you have another reason to be excited. And who knows, we might even get a peak at Zack Snyder’s Watchmen too (that is, unless they decide to hold off until Comic-Con)
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins hits theaters on May 22nd 2009.
