Empire: Total War SoundtrackThrough their licensing relationship with SEGA leading game soundtrack distributor Sumthing Else are about to release the score to the PC RTS game Empire: Total War.

The Empire: Total War Soundtrack features an epic orchestral score composed primarily by lead composer Richard Beddow (Viking: Battle For Asgard), orchestrated and conducted by Nic Raine (Viking: Battle For Asgard) and performed by The Slovak National Symphony Orchestra at the Slovak Radio Concert Hall in Bratislava.

“Undertaking the challenge of the music production for Empire: Total War was no simple task,” said composer Richard Beddow. “The game needed music to convey its size and breadth, covering the various countries at war, delicately accompanying campaign gameplay and underpinning the various cinematics and events in the game.”

You can get a feel for the cinematic feel he is referring to in the following main theme: Read more

Empire: Total War – A Great Spectator Game

April 24, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Empire: Total WarEmpire: Total War has been out for a little over a month now, and it has garnered a lot of attention, both praise and scorn. For the most part, the negative comments have been about the fact that you need an account with Steam, and an online connection for the initial install. The praise has been for the gameplay itself, and what gameplay it is!

Even watching someone else play is a treat. A YouTube user, PrinceofMacedon, has compiled several commentary videos he’s done online with a variety of opponents. During the replay, he presents a running commentary that includes details about his and his opponents’ army, tactics that he’s delpoying, and even historical anecdotes thrown in as well.

I’ve got one of his videos below here for you to watch. It’s a Russia vs Britain battle, with PrinceofMacedon playing as the Russians. Read more

Spain Confirmed as Latest Playable Faction in ‘Empire: Total War’

January 3, 2009 by tcgames · Leave a Comment

Empire: Total War - SpainThe Spanish have a long been conquerors and colonisers in distant parts. Indeed, the Spanish and Portuguese signed a treaty in 1494 that neatly divided the world between themselves. The Spanish went conquering “for God, Spain and to get rich”. They succeeded, to a great degree, in all three aims.

Spain is a staunchly Catholic country, and the Church and the fearsome Spanish Inquisition still have their hold over men’s hearts. This partly explains why, for all its wealth, Spain is economically backward: the Church sees usury (money lending) as sinful. This may be so, but this lack of credit does not help the merchant classes. Economic growth is also not helped when it is beneath the dignity of any hidalgo gentleman to earn money or work. But a gentleman’s honour is worth defending and a nation’s glory is worth winning, so courage is not in short supply. Indeed, Spain is blessed with courageous men on both land and sea.

That Spain will need defending, and soon, is self-evident to many. Charles II, “El Hechizado” or “the Bewitched” is a feeble-minded and pathetic figure, a shadow of his Hapsburg ancestors, and childless. Spain has suffered from his weakness of mind and government, but Charles cannot live forever. When he dies, what forces will shape the destiny of the Empire? Will Spain once again face its Protestant rivals down? Will new there be a new generation of conquistadores to plant the Spanish flag on distant shores? His successor will have much to ponder, but a brave nation to lead back to greatness!

At one time set for an early February release, Empire has since been delayed to early March–though a new campaign multiplayer feature is in the works due to the delay.

ABOUT THE GAME
Dominate the 18th century on land and sea. Command the seas, control the land, forge a new nation, and conquer the globe.
