Harrison Ford says that Indy 5 is getting off the starting blocks…
In an interview with MTV, Harrison Ford has revealed that Spielberg, Lucas and himself are actively pursuing Indiana Jones 5 after the $800 million clean-up at the box-office for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull this summer.
Josh Horowitz’s interview arrives at Indy 5 towards the end:
—————–
MTV: Is the ball in George Lucas’ court at this point?
Ford: It is. That’s the process. With some general input, he goes off and searches for the MacGuffin and then stumbles into a story. And at some point, we have a chance to take a look at it and give some input.
MTV: And he hasn’t found the MacGuffin yet?
Ford: No, we’re still in the primary stages.
MTV: The end of the last film leaves your character in a very intriguing position. He has a wife and a kid. Can he still be that man of adventure with those commitments?
Ford: And he’s seen something. Remember those are the only witnesses to what he’s seen. That’s kind of interesting.

It’s a great chat, with Ford talking about the criticism of his advancing years when playing Indiana Jones, and you can find it here.
Also fascinating the idea that what Ford, Karen Allen and Shia LaBeouf saw in the concluding minutes of Crystal Skull could be haunting them at a political level, and an opportunity perhaps for some more of the tin-foil hat political commentary that made Emperor Palpatine’s election in Revenge Of The Sith such fun.

Indiana Jones & The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull – Impressions

Having been an Indiana Jones fan since about 1981, I walked into the newest chapter of this franchise with no expectations whatsoever. I think it might be age setting in, or life experience, or maybe because I have kids, but I sat waiting patiently to see how it would all turn out.
I liked it. Would I go see it again? Yes. Will I purchase the DVD? Yes. Did it give me the same magic as Raiders Of The Lost Ark did back in 1981? No.
As far as where it is on my chart, I’ll put Raiders first, followed by The Last Crusade/Crystal Skull (they tied for me), with Temple Of Doom in the rear. I have the first three movies on DVD and will occasionally pop one in, grab a snack and enjoy a few hours of movie time when I can.
It’s a great series and is even better when looked at as a whole rather than individual films. Pulp adventure modernized with great respect shown to the classic serials of yesteryear.
