Jon Favreau Promises ‘Iron Man 3′…Someday

It’s not a big surprise that Marvel wants a third Iron Man movie. Spider-Man will have at least four films, X-Men has already spawned that many, with at least three more to come. Fantastic Four and The Incredible Hulk won’t be that lucky.

But how can we be sure there will be a Tony Stark trilogy? ‘Cause Jon Favreau says so. “There’s an Iron Man 3. Here’s how I know: When they make the option deals, they include Iron Man 3. So I know they’re planning on three,” he said at Comic Con.

“Whether that would be before or after Avengers…they’ve announced that Avengers is next, but they pushed back The Avengers once which I thought was encouraging,” Favreau added.

Robert Downey Jr. In Armor On ‘Iron Man 2′ Set

Iron Man 2 is currently in production in someplace called “southern California,” wherever that might be, and yesterday, Jon Favreau and company made use of Randy’s Donuts, an instantly recognizable landmark I first spotted in the video to Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” Of course, since I was just a kid, I thought Randy Newman also owned the donut shop. How cool would that have been?

The famous donut shop is the site of a scene apparently inolving Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.), with Stark lounging on top of the restaurant and making use of giant donut on the roof.

Jon Favreau In As Iron Man 2 Director?

After Marvel’s initial display of stupidity, by not immediately securing Iron Man director Jon Favreau for the sequel, it looks like they’ve come to an agreement.

According to DeadlineHollywood.com, who continues to make light of the Marvel/Favreau fiasco, negotiations are coming to a close, and Jon Favreau is definitely getting what he wants to helm Iron Man 2. This from Nikki Finke…

It’s not officially announced yet, but I’m told that Marvel Studios and Iron Man director Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so of course he’s on board…) Marvel Studios boss David Maisel was quick to put out a “definitely” richer offer to Favreau, but not quick enough for Jon — who used the Internet to rile up the movie’s many fans by spreading nonsense that Marvel was dragging its feet with an offer and then lowballing him. Granted Maisel is no day at the beach himself, but, seriously, could Favreau have been more of an asshole?

Come on now Ms. Finke, Jon never said anything publicly that could have remotely been construed as “riling up the fans.” He simply stated the situation when asked about it, and he was a complete gentleman every time–never implying that Marvel’s delay was anything more than a busy movie season. He never even mentioned that he was being “low-balled.” That rumor came from inside Marvel itself. What riled us fans up was Marvel’s sheer rudeness and lack of gratitude for a job well done. It’s obvious Maisel was either playing “games,” or truly didn’t want to give the guy a proper increase in pay.
