Zvezda will release Ninja Attack, an expansion for Samurai Battles, in May. The $49.95 expansion includes 12 units of miniatures: two ninja warrior bands, six mounted archer troops, and four samurai archer squads. This expansion introduces the mounted archers for the first time.
The expansion includes the cards needed for playing the new minis with both Samurai Battles games (see "‘Samurai Battles’–Two Games in One Box"), four double-sided game boards, 15 terrain tiles, and a games booklet with five new scenarios, including some that can be played only with the Ninja Attack units.
Zvezda has announced the impending release via its U.S. distributors of Samurai Battles(MSRP $79.95), a new historical board game that comes complete with 122 plastic highly detailed and historically accurate miniatures of feudal Japanese warriors. Samurai Battles is actually two games in one box. Commands & Colors is a card-driven game system designed by Richard Borg (Abaddon), while Art of Tactic is based on Konstantin Krivlenko’s hidden planning and simultaneous movement system unveiled in his Origins Award-nominated Barbarossa ’41 game and modified to be used in the feudal Samurai conflict context of Samurai Battles.
Everything needed to play both games is contained in Samurai Battles including separate rulebooks and historically-based scenarios. In addition to the 122 plastic model warriors, the deluxe Samurai Battles game box contains 6 doubled-sided modular game boards with 30 terrain hexes and 13 plastic elevation tiles, which can be used to create an almost unlimited number of battlefields.
In addition to the core game, Zvezda is also releasing four Samurai Battles Model Kits(some assembly required), which players can use to augment their armies. The first four kits that are available includeSamurai Commanders (MSRP $3.95), which contains six warriors with bases, Mounted Samurai (MSRP $3.95), which comes with 3 mounted warriors with bases, banner, unit stand, and unit card, Ashigaru Archers(MSRP $3.95), which comes with 6 peasant archers, banner, bases, arrows, unit stand and unit card, and Ashigaru with Yari(also $3.95), which contains six peasant warriors with long spears, bases, banner, unit stand, and unit card.
Toy and game manufacturer Toy Vault will be publishing a new mech-fighting board game designed by Richard Borg (Memoir 44, BattleLore). The new game, entitled Abaddon, is expected to release in 2012.
The game is set on the planet Abaddon, a desolate wasteland that produces “Feronium.” Two factions fight for control of the resource using mechanized suits called “Links.”
Battles take place on a 28” by 19” game board using 32 detailed miniatures and 18 free-standing landscape features. The game system utilizes a deck of 100 cards representing offensive and defensive weapon systems and special battle dice. Unpredictable and random events and malfunctions are resolved through the use of special “Wild Fire” cards. 15 mission scenarios are included.
Abaddon is designed for two to four players.

Commands & Colors Napoleonics has just gone up on GMT’s P500 list.
Commands & Colors: Napoleonics allows you to re-fight epic battles of the Napoleonic era. In this core volume, the focus is on the French and the British, two bitter rivals in the struggle for European preeminence during the time of Napoleon.
As with other games in the Commands & Colors genre, units in both armies can only move and fight when ordered. The command playing cards supply those orders, providing an element of luck that creates a fog of war and presents players with both challenges and opportunities. You must maximize your opportunities by playing your command cards judiciously. How well you handle the diverse units, their weapons, and the terrain, will determine victory.
